Cultural anthropologist, Dr. Martin Skrydstrup, was born in Sweden in 1969, raised in Denmark, and has spent large parts of his adult life abroad, mostly in the United States, France, Germany and various parts of Africa. He holds a Cand.scient.anth. (MA) from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD in cultural anthropology from Columbia University in New York City. At the age of fourteen, his parents gave him a single lens reflex camera, and since then he has been serious about photography. In the 1990s, after formal training in photojournalism at Nordens Fotoskola, Biskops-Arnö, he held different commercial assignments. In 2002, he was nominated for the Columbia Spectator prize in New York City. His enduring interest is to combine anthropology and photography in new and innovative ways.
